I am a senior in the graduating class of 2012. I'm in 6 different
organivation including big brother/big sister, french club, key club, secme,
Kiada, and Ban-Aids. I'm a decent sketcher and write "life situated" poems. My
goal is to get my master in criminal justice as well as
psychology.
I was inspired by a women who is diagnosed with HIV and explained to me
her struggles in life she was forced to face because of this diseases. Her story
touched me and created a desire or crave to be apart of the fight of HIV/AIDS.
Joining BAN-AIDS made me feel just that.
If i could change one thing about the world it would be people's ignorance.
Due to the fact that the world is filled with people who believe that they are
god themselves and know everything about everything, wars was created
unnecessary, people are emotionally damage, and lives are sacrificed. If we
could educate these same people, then maybe we wouldn't be in the situations
that we are in now.

I'm a senior in the graduating class of 2012. I'm very hard working
and determined. I'm currently in BanAids and the Tiger Cultural Society. But
outside of school, I volunteer for Volunteers of Broward, and in the process of
creating my own organization for teen girls suffering with low self-esteem.
After graduating from college i would like to be a news anchor and have my own news broadcast show on CNN. From there i would like to further my
dreams into becoming the #1 african-american news anchor.
If i could
change one thing about the world.... it would be the expectation that
society wants to portray. The society wants no flaws and wants you to be
perfect, whether it's the way you look or the way you act. And if you don't meet
their expectations then your not good enough.

I am a senior in the graduating class of 2012 and am currently in
the top of my class in addition to being an Honor Roll Student. I've recieved
many academic accolades including Science Fair Awards, Writing Awards, and awards for my outstanding performance in my vocational course. I am
in an immense amount of clubs and extra curiclar activities at my school two of which I hold officer positions. These clubs include ESA, TCS, NAS, NHS, Kiada, Key Club, NSHSS, and DFYIT. I am a fun, intelligent, dedicated and
responsible invidual who is passionate about all that she does. In my community I volunteer at Broward General Hospital where I work in the Pediatirc Department
entertainig all of the kids. I love doing it because it's fun and inspiring and
I like briniging joy to the kids there.
I was interested in Ban-Aids because I feel that its so important to bring
AIDs and STD awarenesss to teenagers because there are so many kids out there
who are sexually active. I feel its important they know about some of the
consequences of unprotected sex as well as learn about abstinece and learn
importnat facts about STDS so that they can protect themselves. I was especially
interested because I feel like its other kids the same age as them teaching and
informing them about these things which is so commendable and relatable.
If I could change any thing about the world I would change the fact that
people can be jealous.. I think jealousy is the root to all evil because when
people are jealous of what others have that makes people want to steal , kill ,
and murder. If people were content with not just what they had but who they are
there would be a lot less hatred in the world .

I am currently a senior in the graduating class of 2012. I am in
the top ten percent of my class. I would describe myself as dedicated and hardworking simply because I strive to do my best in everything. I am currently a member of the Ban-Aids team, Ely Scholars Association, Tiger Cultural Society, Key Club, Kiada Ladies of Distinction, National Achiever’s Society, French Club, DFY-IT, Women of Tomorrow, and part of the National Honor Society. My goal in life is to become a pediatrician simply because I love helping kids and what better way to help them than by impacting their health.
I became interested in Ban-AIDS after I saw the flyer around
school. I realized that people barely pay any attention to AIDS anymore and
especially in this society where we live HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention is
necessary. Also when I was informed that South Florida is number for AIDS cases
in the Nation it’s really struck me and I felt that Ban-AIDS is a club thatwould really benefit our school and the
Community.
If I could change thing one about the world…. I would change any
medical pediatric sufferings. For example babies who suffer with AIDS. I think
that babies are innocent and they should not have to suffer.

Danoucheka Gelin
Director of Communications
Pediatric Cardiologist
Columbia University, Howard University, University of Florida, Florida State University
I am currently a senior in the graduating class of 2012 at Blanche Ely High School. As of right now, I am in the top 1% of my class and dream of leaving my mark on the school after I leave. Over the years I have been enrolled in numerous AP and Honors classes in order to succeed in fulfilling my magnet requirements in the Pre-Medical magnet program. I am also enrolled in various Dual Enrollment courses at Broward College. I participate in many extracurricular activities in my school including the Emerald Ice Dance Team, KIADA Ladies of Distinction, ESA, NAS, DFYIT, and of course, Ban-AIDs. I am the Historian and Communications Director for ESA and Ban-AIDs respectively. In my free time, I am a volunteer at North Broward Hospital in the joint replacement and spinal treatment ward.
I decided to become a part of Ban-AIDs because I am very aware of the negative stigmas and misinformation that come with the subject of HIV/AIDs. I believe that raising awareness and educating about this disease is the only way to prevent its spread, find a cure, and conquer it altogether. In the case of HIV/ AIDs , ignorance is public enemy number one. I know for a fact that I simply can never know enough about this disease but I am definitely interested in sharing everything I know with my peers. I would like to know that in the end I have made a difference in the battle against AIDs.
If I could change one thing about the world, it would be the amount of ignorance that is around us. Ignorance comes in all shapes and it is ignorance that brings about many of the problems that we face in our society.

License Practical Nurse, Pediatric Hematologist/ Nurse,
Spelman University, Columbia University, University of Central Florida, Howard University, Florida State University
Currently, I am a senior making my way into the top 5% of the graduating class of 2012. During the middle of my freshman year, my mother talked me into withdrawing from the Medical Science program at BEHS and entering the Practical Nursing program and I believe that has been one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. At the end of my junior year, I was pleased to find out that I was indeed one of the nineteen students that was accepted into this program. To recap on my past, Freshman year I took on a few obligations by joining some clubs like DFY-it, Ladies of Intrigue, . My sophomore year I partake in academic clubs as well as athletic clubs like Cross Country, Raiders, JROTC Flag Detail, Elys' Scholars Association, Track & Field, National Scholars of High School Students, Ban-Aids and various of other clubs. Ending my junior year I added a different sisterhood called Kiada to my list of clubs, was named Most Improved for the 2010-2011 CC season, and was also Co-Captain of the team. Now that I am entering the last phase of high school, I hope to continue on participating in these clubs while becoming members in other clubs that will aid in paving the path for a better future. While maintaining my membership in these clubs, I also plan on balancing my job at Papa Johns, graduating from Ely with being a Certified Practical Nurse, studying for NCLEX, applying for scholarships, and getting into my top five choices. After Undergrad, I want to go to either Meharry Medical College, John Hopkins Medical College or UPenn in order to get my medical degree so that I can be a Pediatric Hematologist.
If I could change one thing in the world. ... If I could change one thing in the world I would delete the word FEAR. FEAR defined as a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, or pain whether the threat is real or imagine determines our life and derails us from making the important decisions in our life. We must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

As a graduate in the top one percent of the
Pre-Med Magnet program at Blanche Ely High School, class of 2009, I decided
to continue my education at Nova Southeastern University, from which I
received a full tuition scholarship. I am enrolled in Nova's Dual Admissions
program, which is a 7-year medical course, also I am a part of the university's
Honors program. Although I am aspiring to be an excellent physician, my
ultimate goal is to one day lead global efforts to educate and improve the living conditions of third world countries. I wouldn't describe myself as talented or gifted, but regardless of my dispositions I am highly dedicated and willing to work as hard as required to achieve those goals in the distance. My interests include fitness, traveling, cooking, swimming, and, whether I like it or not, studying.
If I could change one thing about the world....there is a lot about this world that I would like to change...but if I was able to change only one thing, it would be to provide every person equal opportunities to succeed, so that in the end success would be measured by the person's efforts, or their-lack of, and not by their dispositions in life.

I am a graduate of Blanche Ely High School class of 2011. I graduated in the top 1% of my class and graduated as a pre-medical magnet student. I am an alumna of the Ladies of Intrigue organization, as well as the step team, and the 21st Century program of the YMCA. I was the president of TCS, a cultural awareness group that has a goal of bridging gaps of different societies. I was vice president of ESA, which aids students on the path to reaching a higher level of education. I also participated in A Cry for Hope, a volunteer-based group that is trying to reach out to those in need, and NAS, National Achievers Society. I was a part of the Debate/Public Speaking in the National Forensic League, became a member of the Latin Club and volunteered at my local daycare location. I am now working with the University of Miami to obtain grants and work on making the community a better place. I am a part of BanAIDS because I believe that AIDS awareness, or any knowledge, should be widespread. Knowledge holds the opportunity to make better choices.
If you can change one thing about the world…it would be the amount of zeal that the youth contain in improving the world and its problems. We are the future, and soon the world will be our responsibility. Preparation and Passion are keys to the ultimate success of the next generation.
